Words to Live By: Opportunity
After my Spanish class this past Thursday, My Professor had a talk with me. She indicated that my Spanish was not up to level needed for the class. This of course was not news to me. For many weeks I had been overcome with anxiety about my performance in class. I have been studying Spanish for years now; however when the time comes to speak it I freeze up and struggle to bring the words to my mind. As she explained that I was in danger of failing the class, I couldn’t stop the tears from coming to my eyes. I was embarrassed and I felt inadequate. Dropping the class is not an option as I have to maintain 12 hrs to be a full time student. At that moment all I could think was how much I wished I never stepped foot inside that classroom. My Professor started to encourage me at this point and said there was still time to improve. As she suggested ways that I could become more comfortable speaking the language. As my tears subsided, I began to understand what was before me which was Opportunity. The opportunity to rise to the occasion and improve my Spanish. Here before me lies the opportunity to practice what I preach. Opportunity is defined as a good position, chance, or prospect, as for advancement or success. While I may not be in a good position currently, there is time to improve. Many times we zero in on the negative aspects of situations and miss opportunities to better ourselves and the situation itself. So this week I will begin tutoring and studying more. Two things I was not doing before. The Opportunity is before me I only hope I take full advantage of it and I want all of you Visionairies to do the same
Well those are some encouraging words. As long as you keep your resolve and be steadfast in the face of adversity there is nothing you can’t overcome.
