*Kilmartin has been a religious centre for many centuries. Indeed, the name Kilmartin (Cille Mhartainn) means '[St.] Martin's Church'. It is uncertain, whether or not the Martin of Kilmartin is the same as the St Martin after whom the St Martin's Cross at Iona Abbey is named.
**Blessington is only a few kilometers from Glendalough, renowned for an Early Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin.
